4 Proven Tips for Better Study Results with Less Effort!

Tip 1:

Spaced Repetition

Discover the power of spaced repetition, a time-tested strategy for effective long-term learning. This method, pioneered by German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus over a century ago, involves breaking down information into bite-sized chunks and consistently reviewing them over time.

How It Works

At a neurological level, our brains are constantly processing information for long-term storage and recalling memories when needed. By spacing out and organizing this information, we enhance our brain's efficiency in both storing and retrieving knowledge.

Scientific Evidence

Research supports that spaced repetition significantly improves long-term retention compared to last-minute cramming sessions.

Get Started

To kickstart spaced repetition, have your learner begin early. They should plan their study sessions in advance to make the most of this technique. For instance, rather than trying to memorize the entire periodic table at once, tackle a few rows each day and review them before moving on.

Tip 2:

Active Recall - Elevate Your Learner's Memory Game

Ready to supercharge your learner's memory? Active recall is your go-to technique! This method involves your learner testing themselves at various stages of their study journey to retrieve information from memory.

The Power of Active Recall

By making your brain work to recall information, your learner reinforces long-term retention. Research confirms that active recall significantly boosts learning efficiency, enabling them to achieve better results in less time. A 2013 study, which analyzed a multitude of research on effective study techniques, hailed testing or active recall as a high-impact method that requires minimal training to implement.

How to Harness Active Recall

Now, how can your learner make active recall work for their studies? Here are a couple of strategies:

- Close the Book: When making notes, try jotting down key points without peeking at their textbook. Summarize the material in their own words. Afterward, cross-check with the book to fill in any gaps.

- Question Your Way to Success: As they delve into their study material, they should create their own set of questions, akin to Cornell note-taking. Crafting this question list actively engages their cognitive processes, strengthening memory connections and priming them for better recall during exams.

Get ready to turbocharge learning and retention with the magic of active recall!

Tip 3:

How to help your child (or yourself) boost learning efficiency! I do this with my students, my son, and myself!

Interleaved Practice - Ready to supercharge study sessions? Discover the magic of interleaved practice! Instead of focusing on a single topic for extended periods, mix different subjects within your study time. (For me I study then add in house cleaning!)

How It Works

Interleaved practice challenges your brain to switch between various types of information. This constant switching enhances your ability to differentiate between concepts, making it easier to remember and apply them in the long run.

Backed by Science

Research supports that interleaved practice is more effective than blocking. According to the University of Arizona Academic Affairs, cognitive psychologists believe it strengthens memory associations and helps the brain differentiate between concepts.

How to Apply It

During your study session, allocate time to different subjects like math, chemistry, and biology. Then, revisit these topics, possibly in a different order and with varied study methods. This approach encourages you to make new connections between subjects and reinforces your memory.

Remember to give each subject ample time for a deeper understanding before moving on.

Tip 4:

Sleep & Study Success- YEAH! Finally, advice that BEGS you to sleep! I LOVE to sleep! Do you?

Late-night cramming? It's tempting, but not the way to go. All-nighters can lead to forgetfulness and stress.

Prioritize Sleep

Before exams, aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Your brain uses this time to strengthen and organize the day's learning. It's memory consolidation in action, making material easier to recall later.

Backed by Research

Research proves that a good night's sleep enhances declarative memory, helping you remember crucial facts for that big exam. Declarative memory is the conscious recollection of experiences, events, and information used in everyday living.

So, snooze your way to success!

Let's embark on this journey of efficient and effective learning together! Let's talk.
